You’re Right!

I read a Seth Godin blog recently about setting your clients up to be right and it struck a chord with me for obvious reasons. Sometimes in my industry, (as I’m sure it is in most others) we try too hard to be the “expert” or source of all knowledge and push our opinions on to our clients, because hey, that’s what they pay us for right? We often structure our interactions, relationships, interfaces, contracts and meetings in a way that forces people to fail, simply because they can’t read our minds. We ask open questions and hope for closed answers, in a vain attempt to further our agendas

Why not instead let your clients, employee’s, bosses and colleagues lead you to the solution you’re looking for by setting them up to be right, if you structure and plan your meetings effectively it should be easy to do without appearing overly patronising. Everyone likes to be right so why not make it part of your plan to help them?
