Do’s and Don’ts for this year’s Christmas Party
- How early is too early to leave on Friday?
- It’s such a nice day, how far can I stretch this lunch?
- Do any of my clients have a Marquee at the races?
- Who can I play golf (or insert similar sport) with and legitimately claim it’s a work thing?
- I can’t wait to get to the beach this weekend, I hope my bikini or board shorts still fit
- When and where is this year’s Christmas Party?
We all know how hard you work, and of course there are property prices and cost of living increases and all sorts of other lifestyle stresses, so we understand the need for letting your hair down. Christmas however, is not called the silly season for no good reason and it always pays to be mindful how you handle yourself in a work/social situation. That is why Beachside have compiled the following list of do’s and don’ts for this year’s Christmas party.
Do look forward to the work Christmas Party.Don’t hang a large calendar on the wall and put large red X’s in the days that lead up to a box which says “Wooohooo!! Free booze & get out of prison day”.
Do turn up early to the function and offer to help.
Don’t turn up early to the function and offer to help drink all the beer.
Do dress appropriately for a work function
Don’t dress for a pole dancing demonstration
Do make sure you check before you bring a guest or partner
Don’t try to sneak someone in
Do make sure you socialise with everybody from the company. This is a great opportunity to network and meet the management team/other staff.
Don’t find a quiet room somewhere to hook up with someone from the management team or other staff.
Do have a drink or two and enjoy yourself
Don’t have too much to drink and make a fool of yourself; it’s a long time until next year’s Christmas party and you know that if you do, everyone will be talking about all year.
Do organise transport home
Don’t plan to drive
Do share stories about your working year and work related wins and losses.
Don’t use this as an opportunity to tell everyone why you could do a better job than your boss.
Do have a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Don’t photocopy any part of your anatomy and turn it into a Christmas card. Enjoy your function but make sure that you continue to function. If you’d like to share any work related Christmas Party or function stories with us we’d love to hear them. Send us an email to enquiries@beachside.net.au or drop a note on our facebook page.
